Food Allergy Awareness Week

As part of Food Allergy Awareness Week, we wanted to showcase the work our wonderful staff have been doing behind the scenes within our Retirement Housing with Meals and Retirement Housing Plus services.

Over the past year, we have been working very closely with our suppliers and utilising software that links directly into our main supply chain to create recipe cards for our developments.  These recipe cards not only highlight any of the 14 allergens within the dishes we serve, but also provide nutritional information so that our tenants and service users can make informed choices about the meals they would like to receive.

Each site now has over 140 recipes that will capture any allergens present and will help to provide variety, choice and engagement for our tenants.

We have also rolled out extended online allergen training from Food Standards Scotland for all of our Cooks, Meals Service Assistants and Managers.  In addition, our Cooks are now completing the 'Advanced' online allergen course also from Food Standards Scotland.

We will continue to develop and adapt our meals service with allergen awareness, nutritional awareness and, above all, choice.  We will do this by engaging with and listening to our tenants with daily feedback and regular tenant consultations in both group and one-to-one settings.
